Rolewell application document guide
Match your resume and cover letter with Rolewell
Your resume and cover letter should describe the same experience. Start with the duties in one vacancy, identify facts you can support, and use that evidence consistently in both documents.
Rolewell provides editable DOCX originals for a focused resume, an extended resume, a cover letter and a reference sheet. This guide walks through choosing a layout, turning evidence into a useful bullet, connecting it to a letter, and checking the final files. All practice facts below are fictional. Replace them with your own experience before applying.
Check the preview and choose a working document
Start with the free fictional resume PDF and formatting checklist. They show the intended hierarchy and review steps. The free preview does not include editable DOCX templates; the free preview ZIP contains the PDF, checklist, README, checksums and its separate license.
The editable pack is $12.00 USD, one-time. Applicable taxes calculated at checkout. Its four blank DOCX originals, four fictional DOCX examples, four PDF examples, editing guides and supporting files are separate from the free preview. Read the current product page for the offer and delivery information.
After obtaining the editable pack, extract it without changing the folder structure. Open templates/resume-focused.docx and immediately save a working copy. Keep the original untouched. Use the extended template when a longer, relevant history needs two pages; it has an explicit page break before Selected Projects. Remove unused sections instead of inventing experience to fill them.
The files use US Letter, Arial 11-point body text, one column and ordinary body paragraphs. They contain no layout tables, text boxes, images or macros. These are layout choices, not a promise that a particular recruitment system will parse every application correctly. Follow the employer’s requested format, page and size limits.
1. Make a private evidence map for one vacancy
Keep a short worksheet beside your working documents. For each relevant vacancy duty, record duty → evidence and its limit → resume location → letter connection. A requirement tells you what an employer wants; it does not establish that you have done it.
For practice, Rolewell includes an invented Operations Analyst vacancy and evidence notes in examples/target-role.txt. The fictional applicant’s current title is Operations Coordinator. Applying for an analyst role does not change that employment title.
| Vacancy duty | Known practice fact | Boundary | Where to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maintain weekly reporting | Four weekly status files combined in one tracker; refresh steps documented for six coordinators. | No before-and-after timing measurement. | One experience bullet and the letter’s reporting example. |
| Check incomplete source records | Missing dates and duplicate records checked before review; corrections logged. | No measured accuracy percentage or error-free guarantee. | A second bullet and a sentence explaining the review method. |
| Document handoffs | A recurring-request checklist written; two new coordinators trained to use it. | No management or team-lead title is established. | A supported handoff bullet if relevant to the vacancy. |
The figures describe scope in an invented exercise. Four files, six coordinators and two trainees refer to different things; keep that distinction in both documents. For your own worksheet, use records you are allowed to consult, work you can explain, or a referee who can confirm it. Do not copy confidential employer or client material into the application.
If you cannot support a duty, mark gap — omit claim. Keep another relevant example or describe genuine study accurately. The supplied SQL practice note supports independent study on synthetic data, not production SQL employment or a vendor credential.
2. Write the resume bullet before the summary
“Helped with reporting” leaves the reader guessing about your contribution. With the first practice note above, a more specific bullet is:
Combined four weekly status files in one tracker and wrote refresh instructions for six coordinators.
This says what the fictional applicant did and identifies the work’s scope. It does not claim a faster process or a financial result. If your real records do not support the counts, use the relevant facts you can substantiate instead:
Maintained the weekly operations tracker and flagged missing inputs before the team review.
Do not add “cut reporting time by 40%” or “guaranteed error-free data” to this exercise. Neither outcome is in the evidence. Removing a guessed percentage is better than replacing it with another guessed figure.
Enter each supported bullet in Experience and retain the correct employer, dates and actual title. Write Summary after you have selected the evidence; it should describe the experience shown below it. Replace complete bracketed prompts, remove unused roles and search for [ and ] before submission. A working copy of a filled example also needs every fictional name, employer, date and figure replaced.
3. Use the same evidence to explain relevance in the letter
Open a copy of templates/cover-letter.docx. Connect two relevant examples to the employer’s work rather than repeating every resume bullet. For the fictional reporting exercise, one short paragraph could read:
In my operations coordination work at Northlake Service Studio, I brought four weekly status files into one tracker and documented refresh instructions for six coordinators. Before the weekly review, I checked missing dates and duplicate records and logged corrections for follow-up. I would bring that same reporting and handoff discipline to the Operations Analyst role.
The paragraph explains the method and its relevance without creating a new result. Its four files and six coordinators match the resume. The target role is Operations Analyst; the held role stays Operations Coordinator. For a second example, use different supported evidence, such as the supplied Pinebridge workload summaries and process notes, instead of adding an unsupported management claim.
A letter can explain why an example matters. It cannot turn independent study into a production job, a contributor into a manager, or a record check into an accuracy guarantee. In your real application, use your own facts and a verified employer name; keep the private worksheet and practice evidence IDs out of the files you send.
4. Save, export and compare the actual pair
Save the working resume and letter as editable DOCX files. Close and reopen those exact files, then export each to a PDF with selectable text. Open the actual exported PDFs and compare them with the saved DOCX documents; an older PDF may still contain an earlier title, date or bullet.
In the tested Apple Pages workflow, importing DOCX creates a Pages working document. Use File → Move To to choose a local folder and inspect the document location before entering information. Use File → Export To → Word for the editable DOCX and File → Export To → PDF for the submission copy. Reopen the Word export as well as the PDF. Rolewell supplies DOCX originals; it does not include Pages-native files or a hosted Google Docs template link.
| Check | What should agree |
|---|---|
| Identity and target | Your name, the target employer and target role; distinguish the target title from a title you actually held. |
| Employment history | Employer names, role titles and dates match your records and agree across the pair. |
| Claims and counts | Each result has support; scope counts retain the same meaning in both documents. |
| Layout | Readable text, complete first and last lines, no clipped content, orphan heading or unwanted blank page. |
| Text and cleanup | PDF text can be selected and copied in a sensible order; no prompts, fictional content or private worksheet remains. |
Copy some PDF text into a plain-text editor to inspect reading order. That is a readability check, not ATS certification. If content spills, first shorten repeated or irrelevant material or use the extended layout deliberately. Do not shrink everything just to force one page. Inspect pagination again after a font substitution or paper-size change.
Use the employer’s requested file type even if it differs from your default. Send the references sheet only when requested and after each referee has agreed to the contact details you will share. Keep a local copy of the version actually submitted.
Compatibility, privacy and use terms
Rolewell’s native workflow has been tested in Apple Pages 14.5 with DOCX save/export/reopen and PDF export/reopen in Apple Preview. Independent review included a blank focused resume and matching letter with fictional content. The supplied DOCX files and their rendered pages were also checked separately. This is representative coverage, not every document in every editor.
Microsoft Word interaction and Google Docs import remain unverified. See the compatibility details and full use guide. The pack is not a federal or academic CV format and makes no ATS vendor, interview or hiring guarantee.
The offline files contain no telemetry, remote fonts or network code. Your editor or cloud provider may have its own sync and privacy settings. Rolewell’s hosted product page separately offers optional anonymous action counts, off by default, disabled by Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control; those counts exclude resume content and personal identifiers.
The purchaser license permits customizing the files and sharing finished application outputs under its terms, while restricting resale or redistribution of the original template package. The free preview license is separate. Setup documentation is included; individual coaching, guaranteed support response times and an update schedule are not part of the offer.
